Travel Lens — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-06-16
This policy explains what Travel Lens ("the app", "we") does with your information.
It is written to be readable first, and complete second.
The short version
- Travel Lens works without an account. We don't ask who you are.
- When you scan something, the photo is sent to our server and our AI provider
to interpret it, then the result comes back to you. We don't store your
photos on our servers.
- Your scan history stays on your device — unless you choose to sign in,
in which case it syncs to your account so you can keep it across devices.
- We collect coarse location only if you turn on "Contribute anonymously"
— and even then it's a ~1 km area, never your exact location, and never your identity.
- We don't sell your data and we don't use it to track you across apps.
What we process, and why
| Data | When | Why | Stored? |
| Photo you scan | Each scan |
Sent to our backend and to our AI provider to identify and explain the image |
Not stored by us; transmitted for processing only |
| Your question text (follow-ups) | If you ask |
Sent with the image to answer your question | Not stored by us |
| Scan history (results + a small thumbnail of the photo) | Each scan |
So you can review past lookups |
On your device by default; synced to your account (Supabase)
only if you sign in |
| Email address | Only if you sign in with Google |
To identify your account for history sync and your subscription |
Stored with your account until you delete it |
| Coarse location (≈1 km geohash) |
Only if you enable "Contribute anonymously" |
To build anonymous local price/condition info for travelers |
Stored as a coarse, anonymized record; auto-expires |
| Item & price from a scan | Only with the opt-in above |
Same as above | Same as above |
| Basic app diagnostics | Always |
Keep the app stable | Minimal, not linked to you |
We do not collect: your name, contacts, precise GPS, advertising
identifiers, or your photo library beyond images you explicitly choose to scan. We only
receive your email address if you choose to sign in.
Who else processes your data (subprocessors)
To interpret a scan, the photo and any question text are sent to our AI provider:
- Google Gemini (Google LLC) — our AI provider. See Google's privacy terms.
And to run the service:
- Vercel — hosts our backend that proxies the request.
- Supabase — hosts accounts and synced history, only if you sign in.
We share data with these providers only to deliver the feature you asked for. We do
not share data with advertisers or data brokers.
Optional account (Google sign-in)
Signing in is optional. If you do:
- We store your email address and account ID (via Supabase) to identify you.
- Your scan history (results and a small photo thumbnail) syncs to your account.
- Your subscription status is tied to your account.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account →
Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile, and all synced history.
(You can also do this from the web app at
lookup-phi-six.vercel.app/settings.)
The "Contribute anonymously" option
This is off by default. If you turn it on (in onboarding or Settings):
- We keep an anonymous record of the item, its price, a
coarse ~1 km area, and the time — to help other travelers see fair local prices.
- We drop your exact GPS at the moment of collection and never store it.
- We never attach your photo, your identity, or your question to this record.
- You can turn it off any time in Settings, and ask us to delete contributions.
Data retention
- Photos/questions: not retained after the interpretation is returned.
- History: on your device until you clear it (Settings → Clear history) or uninstall the
app; if signed in, also on your account until you clear it or delete the account.
- Account: until you delete it (Settings → Delete account).
- Anonymous contributions: auto-expire after a limited period (prices go stale), and can
be deleted on request.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g. EEA/UK under GDPR, California under CCPA), you can:
- Access / delete the data we hold. Most of it is on your device — clear
it in Settings. Account data: Settings → Delete account. For anonymous contributions, contact us.
- Withdraw consent for contribution at any time via the Settings toggle.
- Object / not be tracked — we don't track you across apps, period.

Children
Travel Lens is not directed at children under 13 (or the age required in your region)
and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS). Your API/back-end keys are kept server-side and
never shipped in the app.

We'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date when this policy changes.
